I would like to see your survey.
Because for every single business I have been involved with, the opposite is true.

Me thinks you have little clue or experience in that arena.

How many businesses would that be, Dougal? JK2 has access to much information in that area, yet you are trying to out-debate him with your usual anecdotal rubbish, mixed with your absolute belief that you will always be right.

Tip. Sometimes people will know more about a subject than you. It's a fact of life. Wink

I said I'd like to see his survey. I still do because it's so blatently out of kilter with the experience of every business I know.

Is there something wrong with asking for evidence?

here is the pdf that shows the comparable figures.
(if my attachment making skills work ok)
IRD did a big survey last year basically as a benchmarking exercise to see how effective the tax simplification process is.
Actual costings tend to me more accurate than going around an asking businesses how they feel about doing their gst returns etc.

You're talking only about Tax. Big Grin

Compliance, think health and safety, HR and the rest.

Tax isn't what Slim, I and the rest are talking about with compliance costs.

Yeah Dougal, when I said the survey showed that tax compliance cost were reducing I did mean tax. Good spotting.

But the World Bank Report that rated us first in the world for ease of business
http://www.doingbusiness.org/

and the World Economic Forum report (reported in the paper today) that rated us 16th out 117 countries in a world competitiveness survey both looked at much wider issues than tax.

I should add that it doesn't mean i think it is easy to run a small business. I think most small biz owners slog their guts out and I can understand why they don't like the added work compliance costs bring.
