 |

you hear people talking about tracks having great flow all the time. maybe these tracks are too easy? and flow is something to be worked at..... tech twisty race tracks would also keep the speed of the new riders crashes down a bit and perhaps cut down on medical emergencies.
what do you all think - should it take years or weeks to be able to "find the flow" on dh race tracks?

YES I AGREE!
Man I absolutely love gnarly dangerous tracks, a lot of "downhill mountainbiking tracks" that ive ridden are ssip easy now. at least the ones ive ridden, in the lower north island. when i started biking everyone praised downhill as god like (but we were filthy 13 year old groms) and it sounded way too scary, but now, meh.
What tracks are you riding?

I think it's good to have tracks both with nice flow, and then the ruff stuff. It may be making DH easier but i think it's good for newer riders to have fun on until they can ride the harder stuff.

I quite like technical terrain but if whole tracks were made up like that it would absolutely kill the bike!! I can't afford to maintain a downhill bike if tracks were just one technical chute or massive rockgardens

To my mind 'flow' is about a kind of consistency of motion - being able to maintain some momentum - it isn't a hard/easy thing and isn't necessarily about speed. There are easy tracks that don't flow, and hard ones which do - but I agree a lot of the 'DH' tracks are now rather 'one dimensional' now and don't really require much thought - just blasting along a single obvious line.

Maybe DH needs to take a lesson from BMX and have pro lines and flow lines.
Whether the lines are optional or restricted by class is worthy of debate. It may be hard to build technical pro lines that give a time advantage into existing tracks. At the moment, most serious gnar has a short bypass line, but it is often quicker to take the bypass.
Another argument is that technology made a lot of the serious rough stuff not such a big deal. So DH moved on a bit and became about skill and athleticism rather than sheer balls. See the 'DH vs Hucker' debate for more on that argument.

I think its better to have a mixture of fast and slow, techy and kcuf easy.
If you look at the world cup courses they usually have a techy steep bumpy section at the top of the hill and then they blast out of the tree's and the rest of the track is pretty fast and smooth with some jumps.

technicality and flow are not mutually exclusive.

Meh, DH is for fat basdrats who are too lazy to pedal. No wonder they're making tracks easier to suit.

Not my problem you choose to get upset when I point out some of the misconceptions you have about cycling

Can you provide guidance for me? I race downhill and xc, the last xc race I competed in was 77kms. Am I still "too lazy to pedal"? I also noticed a "downhiller" in the top 10 of the Huka XL I'm so confused. WHAT DOES THIS ALL MEAN?
