So does how I sit at work affect my knees?
Yeah for sure it can. I had issues last summer with fleeting knee pain only when cycling, but which got to the point where my knees would collapse if I tried to walk up stairs. I assumed it was caused from cycling but after some suggestions from Beeker ascertained it was caused by my new work desk being slightly too high for me so my legs were kind of stretched to touch the ground.
Didn't hurt at the time and was barely noticeable but certainly screwed with my knees after being like that for a couple months. Sorted that out and my knees came right in about 4 weeks and after about 8 weeks I could walk up stairs without leaning on the hand rail!
It certainly pays to be über pedantic and self-aware of your posture, esp if you you spending 8 hours a day in that same position, as minor discrepancies can cause havoc after a prolonged period.
Anyway, what Beeker said is exactly what Anthony Chapman has been working through with Kim (my partner), she has classic symptoms of all that you described there, confounded by also having tennis elbow, and has been working with Anthony for 6 months.
Now in the second phase of a weights program prescribed by Anthony, and making steady progress, she can highly recommend Anthony as an excellent physio to sort any cycling related injuries or issues.
Im going to see him, sometime, as Im sure I have dodgyness in my pedaling technique and bike setup!
I am NOT taking the DH bike in, its not like I pedal that anyway!

does anyone have any experience with Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome, symptoms, treatment, recovery and (hopefully) return to training?
I hyperextended my right knee in Le Race and have been having problems with it ever since - I almost DNF'd in Graperide due to excruciating pain, finished on only one leg.
Just started training again on Sunday after a four month break which I hoped would fix the problem. went for a gentle 40km ride with one 30sec effort in top gear.
Had no pain during the ride but quite severe pain later in the evening after periods of sitting still. It got better after walking round a bit.
Wikipedia diagnosis is Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome, seems to be fairly textbook symptoms. It's worst when suddenly sprinting better when riding tempo.
Is my racing over? I'm seeing Anthony at QEII on thursday & getting new orthotics which have helped knee pain in the past.
How did you get on Alan, having completed Southland and doing pretty well in local events I take it the treatment was a success?
