Why not. I've only done a little bit, to the cave and back.

I dunno about small groups hacking out these trails Mel - the vibe I get from the land owners is that they will have a base trail system built. Probably slave labour (PD) but some will be done by contractors who build DOC trails if I am not mistaken.

Wow, that's cool. I didn't know that there was so much support out there for getting stuff done. I really thought that it was just a few hardy individuals driving things forward. A double thumbsup Double Thumbs Up Double Thumbs Up to DOC and others out there forging ahead and building trails. I really appreciate it* - whilst I can't ride too much at the moment, when I can I like to get dirty. And if there are more trails available for when my kids can ride on their own, then that's even better!

[digress]* I'm a firm believer that in order to get people riding bikes, we need to adopt an "if you build it, they will come" philosophy. Get people riding recreationally, and it makes the switch to riding to work, or other trips, a bit less of a big deal. More people will become aware of cyclists (being cyclists themselves) and one day we might eventually get back to kids being allowed to ride bikes to school and everywhere else. [/digress]

This is the DOC man to speak to about trails on Pirongia:
Bruce Postill
07 838 3363
bpostill[at]doc.govt.nz

He already has a designated area for MTB in mind, now he needs the numbers.
