Can someone tell me which is the best DH tube to run. I am running a Maxxis Minnion 2.5 on the front and 2.35 at the rear. I currently have maxxis 2.5/2.7 tubes but don't know what to run at the rear as can't find a DH specific tube for the 2.35.
Also the maxxis tubes are very heavy. Any ideas?

I'd say just go with the maxxis on the back too - a slightly thicker tube at the back to protects you from pinch flats if you land a drop or jump badly.

Don't use them then.
I think I use 2.1 Welterweights on my Glory.
Around 200g lighter than proper DH tubes if I remember rightly.
Grip for days and no hesitation muppetting into rocks*.
*even if I had any other option

I used to use the maxxis welterweight ones, didn't have to many problems pinchflatting them with DH tyres, and they're a heap lighter than the DH tubes.

I use dirty old Chen Shin DH tubes front and back, the big thick heavy ones (when you weigh 120odd Kg's heavy tubes don't make a difference) and thrash the parc out of my bike and never once had a flat running high and low pressures, plus they're only like $10 at the LBS.

i run the maxxis 2.5/2.7 Dh tubes, they are heavier but it means i'm less likely to get a flat.

It depends on your rim and tire pressure. Some rims are softer and dent instead of giving you pinch flats, others are like landing on a knife. Maxxis DH tubes are about 400g from memory. If you're racing a really rough track with lots of rocks and roots, then I'd say run DH tubes, otherwise normal tube should be OK for everyday riding on smooth tracks. Or a DH tube in the rear and a normal in the front is also a good idea.

I run cheap tihster 2.1 tubes in DH tyres up to 2.8 inches wide and I've never ever pinchflatted with a DH tyre. And I ride like a muppet and steam into rocks. When I was riding down in chch for the first time with wobbler and elohssa pav, I didn't have enough pressure in my tyres, hit a rock hard enough that the rim went bang on said rock, and still didn't pinchflat. And this was with mavic rims, which aren't supposed to be the soft, dentable rims that MVink mentions...

Bingo! and I have run 1.75 -> 1.95 sized normal tubes in DH tyres up to 2.7" in size without ever having a pinch flat - it's all down to the tyre carcass and the tyres I run are usually beefy enough to protect the tube from pinch flatting.
The only thing better IMO is NO tube at all - convert the tyre to tubeless and you'll usually save around 200 grams per wheel and remove ANY chance of pinch flatting as there's nothing to pinch - in saying that I've been too lazy to convert my bike to a ghetto tubeless setup.

Plain old 2.1" xc tubes for me too  I've frequently steamed in to rocks too and I've NEVER ever had a punctur on my DH bike.
Make sure you run at least 20 psi in your tyres, any less and it just makes the tyres washy.

i use welter weight tubes with DH tyres and havn't had a flat in ages.
Its way lighter than running proper DH tubes and feels alot better too.

EX729/D321s? They are quite flat on the top and reasonably soft, a great rim. There's no way you could have been running EX721/D521.

i found that the 721 are rather happy go lucky about pinch flatting. where as my 729 seem to keep on trucking with out a single pinch flat. and i tend to ride a few rocks..........
