nice one.

I headed up just before 7 this morning after a lap of the boundary fence. I didn't time it, but felt strong.

Ah yes you are the bright one then, getting it out of the way before the rain, Chur to ya bro. Double Thumbs Up

Heh, nope didn't avoid the moisture... it was misty/drizzling when I left home, and didn't seem to let up much at all during my ride.

Well done mate. I only managed 31 yesterday. A light southerly wind seems to make a big difference (for me anyway). I really have to get stuck in I see, although reading your profile I guess a carbon bike may be required ;-)

Question guys, once at the top, is there another way to get over to Makara Peak without going all the way to the Bird Sanctuary and following it around to Wrights Hill & Deliverence? I got talking to a guy at the top of the tipper who said he was off to MP then he disappeared off to the left around the radar station somewhere.

I'm sure others know better but when I did the bottom half of Long Gully down to red rocks on Monday I was told that we can ride up to Wrights Hill by going up the top half of Long Gully. We need to cross through private land (ask for permission in advance).

Pretty sure you can go out via the other side of the old airstrip, but not 100% sure where this might come out.

If you take the road out of long gully you meet the boundary fence between the grovel and wrights hill...

Cheers guys, I think I see on Pesty's map where said geezer went!

Have also seen the car enthusiasts in my travels. Most are OK but one or two have had w4nker tendencies.

The following map shows a few landmarks and tracks - perhaps this will help clarify where things are.

Within Long Gully there are a few roads that head in the general direction of Makara Peak. The most obvious road from what used to be the airstrip emerges at the Parade Ground on Wrights Hill. Alternatively, it is possible to cross the hill between Long Gully and South Karori but it is private land and the route is difficult and rather roundabout (unless someone can point out a better way?).

From the top of the Tip Track, I suggest it is easiest to go down the sealed road for a while, then jump the fence and follow the Fenceline track to Wrights Hill, past the Parade Ground, then down Salvation (or Deliverance).
