Whenever possible, the car should be parked in a public place with plenty people around. This is what I try to do. But for areas with little or no people about, then, if possible, a friend might provide some security if they were to stay with or near the car while others are cycling.

Isolated car parks are always dicey (or 'dodgy' if you prefer). That guy certainly appeared to be very suspicious.

(!?)

Brisspuss, have you been out to the carpark in question ? it has houses opposite it that people live in. not quite 'isolated'.

i think you need to get out of the Hutt a bit more.

Get that mountainbike out, dust it off, and head to Karori. and lots of people at the park will say HI to you. they will even help you fix any punctures you may get.

I'm a bogan for sure, but not a Hutt one. I was just enjoying your gentle ribbing of Brispuss. Wink

Just where do you find these "friends" who are prepared to let you lock them in your vehicle while you go mountain biking in remote areas? Crazy

Perhaps you could be nice and not lock them in the car. maybe put them on a long chain like the rotweiller down the road.
if its a hot day the chain option would be nicer - just make sure you leave the friend a bowl of water.
