actually the problem was I broke my own golden rule and in a fit of madness decided to keep hard hard left. Unfortunately you can't rely on a geriatric drivers eyesight (or ability to judge gaps/width of their own vehicle).

I've learnt my lesson - I now ride like an arrogant roadie kcirp ALL the time Double Thumbs Up
