there is plenty of racing in aucks over summer, but depends if crits and fun races are your thing, theres the thursday night crits at the tank farm, and the tuesday night crits up at north harbour stadium, then theres the saturday morning tt, and if that not enough, u pretty much able to find a fun ride with in a good 100k proximity bout every 2nd weekend. and also the sat morning bunch leaving from mechanics bay is fastest race i have ever done, and probably the most fun race=D
hope that helps
Thanks colours animals.
I don't do crits (I value my life) and turning up to do such a short TT on a busy roads is well...nuts.
The Mechanics Bay ride would be fun if one is into manic rides on the road and getting dropped through red lights etc(and being the curse of Tamaki Drive etc users in cages)
What are the fun rides that are on? (I do the Wild West every year).
sounds like you don't want to do actual races, only t-shirt "participate" events.

No, I want to do "actual races" too - but there are none - apart from crits(which we mentioned).
But...why do we have to have a winter road season?
like a lot of things in life, it's a historical thing... my understand is that it was mainly due to the track season being in summer as the tracks where dangerous when wet. but that line has gone now. but still reflected with labour weekend club nationals. although the elite nationals are now scheduled mid Jan.
As to whether your region has lots of racing through summer, that comes down to the clubs in your region. PNP in wellington has a lot of racing late winter through spring, and more after the XMAS break.... but thats something the road racing committee puts in place. So if you want racing after XMAS in your region, get involved with your local club and see if you can make things happen.
also plenty of tours on through january, 2 day tours in hawkes bay, northland and wellington.. and the wellington 5 day UCI tour as well.
also crits aren't that bad, not as dangerous as your making out. like anything on a bike, stay at the front and you tend to keep out of trouble. i have seen far more crashes at "fun" events!
You make me laugh Steve... about who is hard core and who is not. Lets face some facts here in NZ...the majority of our best roadies are or were trackies... Henderson, Dean, Roulston, Gudsell (Pro Tour) McKenzie,Swart,Latham,etc..etc
I will agre about the sprinters.... however.... very lazy...but I hope with Justin running the National Sprint Programme he will change this!!!!!!!!!!
