I have those rack things that go on the walls and you put the front wheel up in them.
I like to have my bikes hanging in the games room all shiny and sexy (It helps that my bikes are pretty I catching in design)
I need multiple Mtb's because obviously an xc race bike is silly for racing around doing urban or downhill with your mates and you cant really use a 19kg hardtail for Xc so 2 bikes is the only answer.
And 2 road bikes are necessary because I don't really want a hardcore race bike for training on and I got sick of swapping wheels etc so I just got another bike.
And its really good to have a spare!

Most of my bikes are quirky older bikes.,
I have an old Tandem, a Tridem (3 seater). A Healing Cruiser, a Raleigh 20, my road bike (Genius Squadra), plus the kids each have their own bikes. And yeah they all get ridden except the tridem (which needs 3 taller adults)

I fear that by the time you realise you have a problem it's too late.
It would appear however that I'm not too far gone yet. I've only got 2 mtb's and the remains of another, my roadie, and the wife's mtb in the garage at the moment, although that may increase by one if I can find her a roadie as well. It does get worse once you add a couple of helmets, road and mtb shoes, a shelf full of night riding stuff etc etc
Hence my car also lives outside.

Can we modify the equation, kids bikes missing and garage space
K Kids bikes
M mountainbikes Notice M external part of equation
R roadbikes
G Garages
number of bikes needed =
(R+1^2)+M+K <=G
As you can see its always garages that is the limiting factor there is absolutely no limit on bikes and we can have as many as we want unitll we fill the garages then we need to build garages that is where the buck stops

Thats a fine equation but you dont take into account
P Project bikes
tihs All the bits leftover which are too good to throw away but not good enough to sell on TM (or you wont get around too it)

Does this work better
K Kids bikes
M mountainbikes Notice M external part of equation
R roadbikes
G Garages
B bike bits
S spare bedrooms
R replace house with larger garage and more spare rooms
number of bikes needed =
(R+1^2)+(B +R+ K + M )- (S + G) =0
If above > 0 then R

Stilll not right it assumes we can only have one bike per room, lets assume you can safely get 10 bikes in your garage and spare rooms. That means we have 20 spaces
M mountainbikes Notice M external part of equation
R roadbikes
G Garages
B bike bits
S spare bedrooms
R replace house with larger garage and more spare rooms
number of bikes needed =
(R+1^2)+(B +R+ K + M )- (S10+ G10) <=0
If above > 0 then R
that means all your road bikes mountain bikes, bike tihs, kids bikes may equal 20 if you have one spare room and one garage then you are in balance otherwise you are stuffed unless you can find another spare room, or buy a new house with more spare room and garages
The only problem now is how many spaces does bike tihs take up and each person needs to modify the equation to suit how many spaces fits the garage and spare room

just for you
M mountainbikes Notice M external part of equation
R roadbikes
G Garages
B bike bits
S spare bedrooms
R replace husband before replacing house
number of bikes needed =
(R+1^2)+(B +R+ K + M )- (S10+ G10) <=0
If above > 0 then R

Currently my car resides outside, because my half of the garage is too full with bikes and gear to put the car in anymore. Husband refuses to let me use his side |
I could see a classic road bike on one of our internal walls classed as "art".
My wife may have different ideas.....

The Maths is doing my head in.....good thing I only teach it and don't have to USE it!!
Maybe this is my ideal; (or maybe not)
Bikes;
Race
Training
Fast training(for group rides)
Night bike(lights permanently fitted)
Wet day - mudguards permanently fitted
Classic bike (which may or may not be permanently mounted on the wall inside)
SingleSpeed
Project bike - for upgrading another member of the fleet above.
=8 (the magical number)
and....though I hate to admit it....an MTB might be fun

Hey fergie nigel here, can you help I need you to check a frame for me on trade me. A santa cruz roadster a bit rear but will serve a function of tt for me maybee. My issue my tt frame to big 58cm cant get low enough as with no apacers head tube to tall. This one looks like it is small enough to get low in the front but do you know anything about this one. Its a black aero frame head tube looks short enough to go low with no spacers but not sure if this would make a good tt frame. Other prob is it does not come with a seat tube and it looks like its a special aero one. Looks cheap enough for me to upgrade my setup though. Comments please
