Not many people would be riding at a skill level needed to enjoy that bit of track by bike

Exciting to have this available at long last. Have trekked with horses over Fowlers Pass past Lake Guyon and to the Ada Homestead for first night. Also need to cross the Waiau which needs care. Note Ada is out of bounds. Huge day but spectacular. Was at New Year, beautiful weather but be warned temp at night goes many degrees under 0.
Rode out through Edwards- another full day- so once again need to cross Waiau & negotiate around bluffs.
Also watch for bogs that can swallow horses.
And yes there are fish in Lake Guyon but hard to catch. Take care and suggest Frazer you don't go alone.
WOOPS! Looks like we are not allowed across the Waiau.
Also have a look on DOC site to see the hut at Lake Guyon so you know what to expect, unless it has been changed since I was in there.

thinking of riding Edwards,Stanley,Fowlers Pass as one day trip Sat,1st Nov.56km approx should be achievable even for a nearly 6o year old determined & stubborn old sod like me.Leave Rga about 4am would be long tough day but I'm up for it.Am I as I have often suspected totally insane.Any comments!

It is a couple of years since I went in but there was a steep shingle scree on the west side of Fowlers Pass which we had to dismount horses and slip & slide down. I cant imagine this would be pleasant with a bike if trying to get up. I would suggest you ride in over Fowlers - what does DOC say about that.

In DOC Rga office this morn, they have now inspected the Fowler Pass,Stanley,Edwards Rivers route & say that it would entail a lot of bike carry, esp over Fowler Pass & that Stanley River becomes very gorgey with deep river crossings.Still keen to look for myself.

I'll have to add a weekend mission to Hanmer to the to do list. Now if I could just finish my spare time generator...... |
Wonder if John Key's Govt would have bought it? Doubt it.
