Can someone tell me where I can get some decent info/maps of on the trails around Taupo? I'm looking to get into some easyish stuff to begin with and build up to an event in the early summer (maybe even the cycle challenge) I will drive down from Hamilton after work so dont want to be kciding around trying to find tracks... just want to get straight into it!

Just checked the bike taupo website to find map links but they appear to be dead for some odd reason
Here's a small section of the tracks: http://www.cyclechallenge.org.nz/pdf/MTB_Practice_Course.pdf
Craters of the moon is awesome and has a good variety of tracks for all abilities. There is also the rotary ride form Spa park to Huka Falls and on to Aratiatia. And jsut recently finished was the track form whakaipo bay to kinloch (or vice versa).
Feel free to ask more questions and I'll do my best to help in the absence of maps for some odd reason.
nb. You might be able to pick a map up from one of the local bike shops

Stop in at the "hub" (where the helicopters are) they've got maps for sale
I could possibly e-mail you an older one, if you get desperate

oldmankona - keep your eyes peeled on the Hamilton MTB site. Once the 6hr race is completed there will be a bunch of club rides being organised to all sorts of places and will have a range of abilities attending.

Will do Russ... I have been meaning to get along to join up, now that I have splashed out on a bike I'll have to put it to use now!

Sorry our web site got done over Thomas is still working on it
You can get Maps from the Hub cafe at Wairakei or any of the bike shops plus the info centre. W2K maps are in most places plus the cafe as you drive into Kinlock. No shuttle has stated up on W2K yet, for your info its 14KM one way
Cheers
