There's a tonne of riding in the Hutt.
Wainui for one.
Belmont for two.
Eastern Hills for three.
Akas for four, five, six, seven, eight....

If there is something I want to know Mike at VIC is my first stop - and I will definitely checking out his new store come December 1st Double Thumbs Up

Howdy folks--I'm the aforementioned Tall Texan and I'm thrilled to announce the opening of another contender for the best shop in the Hutt. We'll be opening 1 December and located on Fergusson Drive in Upper Hutt in the old Repco building by Dwights Canvas. Expect to see Giant, GT, and Fisher, a world class workshop with a wheel builders dream tool kit, pro bike fit, and a sports massage therapist on staff. I've got over twenty years in the biz, including several years with the world's most famous Texan besides GW Bush (sorry for that one!). Accordingly, you'll get the best service from an extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff.
I love the bicycle. Pure and simple. My mission in life is to turn on those who don't ride and rev up those who do.

Hi Nick,
Bike Hutt will open 1 December---and with a little luck my shiny new Curtlo will have arrived by then. Naturally, I'll have as many of the big wheels for the big lads as possible. I'll be working hard to fulfill my role as 29er posterboy. Don't worry. I'll have lots o' wee wheels for the wee laddies and dhers, too.
Cheers,
Mike

From my experience bicycle is the ULTIMATE shop. Their sales staff don't hound you when you go in there, which I find brilliant. The brands they stock are cool as. I love transition!
Belmont or Wainui are the best places around the hutt to go riding in my opinion.

I'm a bit put off the Avanti place because it's half a toyshop. I know this is an unreasonable bias but my bike isn't a toy.

the old owner used to own toyworld and avanti but not any more. mid last year Murry (who has worked in bike shops his whole life) and Brendan (who was previously the lower north island rep for PRV) brought the business.

Its just the same building as Toyworld.

PS. if you want to see a BLING time trial bike, last time i went there they had an Avanti Chrono team on the floor, im not a fan of roadies but that was a minta!

I will give VIC a thumbs up, minor tuning at no cost and friendly staff.

All good.

Went to Avanti on Saturday, spoke to a helpful guy about ladies bikes (had my wife with me). While she was doing something else I started talking about roadies with him, but he seemed not to have taken the chance. His real mistake was in telling us there was a sale next weekend.....not a great way to attempt to close a sale.....

I hate to say it, but the guys down at Cycle Science did a better job. They sold wifey a bike first, talked to me about roadies and helped me understand what I needed to know, then managed to convince me to part with another grand or so on a Trek 1.2.

I have to say it, sales wise the Cycle Science guys knew there stuff, and stood out, a cut above Avanti to me....they got my cash after all.....
