I like big butts and I can not lie
You other brothers can't deny
That when a girl walks in with an itty bitty waist
And a round thing in your face
etc

I don't buy the kiwi women have big esras thing. I've lived and been single in 3 foreign countries, and not been single in a couple more, so I have done a large amount of reseach both hands on and observational... Paranoid

Whatever happened to fiscal responsiblity during an economic crisis?

I agree with phuck that we need to make uni entrance more difficult raher than breed career students who seem to think its there right to be paid to do a few hours study per week.

What evidence do any of you have that this will produce career students rather than more graduates? Eh?

you make it sound as if universal student allowances are some new invention. They were in place pretty much up to the year I started in 91. I am sure there were sifters that stuck around for ages but there were also sifters there when we were paying 1600 fees and borrowing at 7 percent or so for everything.

You may have missed that the Universal Student Allowance will have a limit of 200 weeks.
So 'professional students' won't get a free ride forever.

Someone who has studied more economics, correct me if I am wrong, but during an economic crisis the government should be getting as much into the economy as possible.

Where NZ's blow out has been is spending lots in the good times and not saving for the bad times. While it was labour that was spending, democracy has a bit to answer for in this case.

If you are a 'Keynesian' then yes the theory goes that during the 'bust' cycle the govt should be spending more (fiscal deficit) and during the boom they should be spending less (fiscal surplus) ie what Kullen has done.

{Posted via mobile.vorb.org.nz} The Labour government's surplus is for the super fund. I thought they were putting that away for when they had to pay that?
