Pretty difficult/impossible to get 'full' replacement value, more often then not they liaise with the bike shop and you get this years equivalent stock version, regardless of any upgrades you might have had on your original. So gotta be realistic about specified value on your policy, no point paying extra for no reason.

Using a broker can ease most of the pain with insurance companies! They filter out all the BS.

Hope this helps!

AA House and contents does, you have to have your bike listed as a special item and get a quote/reciept from your bike shop though

Most important bit is to get a replacement value quote from your bike shop, if you upgrade then get an new one from the bike shop that did it. AA do new for old replacment so they don't depreciate the parc out of it and tell you it's worth $50 because you've had it for 2 years.

AMI do full replacement but if its worth over $2g it has to has a quote for replacement from lbs a pic and listed seperate on our insurance.

On another note does anyone know what insurance company does a bikes only insurance. I need it for when I move out next year. I dont really give a parc about my other gear just my bikes? Or who does the best h & c insurance?

thanks bols

If your moving into a flat youll probably want renters insurance anyway (to cover your liability if you burn the flat down) which ussually covers your contents aswell.

Another company to try is Allianz. I've got my bike listed under my H&C at replacement. Added about $85 per year on a $4k bike with full replacment.

State Insurance do full replacement - have never had a problem with claims. House hit by lightening - lots of new stuff after that one. And other unfortunate claims Blush

I'm With Stupid

Will have to check if mine's replacement too.
If it's a declared item is it automatically full value?

I've had 3 bikes stolen and never had any problems Blush Smile

My bikes are insured with State (one declared, other <2k), don't get full replacement, only their current value

And not insured at all if anything happens when riding them either haha

Do you get the declared value if it's stolen or whatever though?

Don't think so. I'm pretty sure they depreciate it every year, will have to double check though. I definitely wouldn't get full replacement value if it got nicked
