Yeah Beekers absence also makes me imagine he's pulling out all stops, almost as if he's given up Vorbing to get in extra training. Beeker all the way now even though I voted for BigJim originally (I think it was an underdog vote).

I have seen Beeker out training a few times. Ladies and gentlemen... it's SHOWTIME!
What about times from the previous years? For me:

2005: 2:23
2006: 2.30
2007: 2.19

Think Beeker did 2.11 in 2005 (slightly shorter) course, so it could be close ?? Then again I need to do some training in order for that to happen. tihs.

Like to dedicate this song to FOC challengers on behalf of Vorb, I can relate to the lyrics, so I’m sure you three can.

I’m sticking with bigim, if the race was flat beeker and fergie might have a chance. I think with the amount of hills bigjims bigpower to weight ratio will help him win. If he does no training between now and foc beeker might have a chance Sad

4 votes, start slow and finish fast!

The FOC is a short term goal on the way to bigger goals. Really keen to give Manu Robson a nudge on the track in the Individual Pursuit. He is around World Record pace over 3000m in the 35-39 age group and is a real inspiration.

Keen to have a great track season and sure Gydey, Steve Woods and possibly Lester Settle will keep me on my toes. Gydey looking pretty lean and although he is giving me 10 years i'm giving him 20kg and he is about a foot taller than me.

So the big challenge is sharpen up the diet and personal lifestyle. Great racing is built on great fitness, and great fitness is built on a foundation of good health. Thanks to a friend I have taken some positive first steps in the battle of a lot of bulge (thanks to Hash last night reminding me I was a porker, like I had forgotten).

This morning instead of buying a coke it was salad and some fruit and instead of entering stock from a stool it's standing. Positive action, measuring progress and support from good friends. Goal is 81kg by mid February!

May be too late to have a great FOC but I will be happy to be able to ride hard the whole way and possibly support some of my riders going for age group placings.

good on you fergie.. you can do it... can't remember what movie thats off?

BTW on the bigjim power to weight argument raised by OmnoG... the only flaw with this argument is that you have to have some power to start with.. this is bigim's fatal weakness.

I have power to weight, that's not the problem. It's holding a high speed / maintaining race pace is where I experience difficulty. I know from my powerlifting days that my power to weight ratio is decent, although I concede that being able to move big weights might ot equate to being powerful for cycling?
Who knows, I'm like Fergie in that I'm just gonna turn up and ride myself into the ground on whatever bit of form I have at the time!

yes the correlation between being able to do powerlifting and cycling endurance (i.e. 2+min durations) is well is well documented Crazy

You gotta rung what ya brung.

Apart from a Soy Latte overdose had a good day of eating. Actually had some fruit and a salad. No coke, good thing as coughing lungs from the crit has given me a sore throat. Having coke and other s**t would stuff the immune system even more.

I would say once you go over 3sec weights have no bearing on cycling. If that.

Does that include riding the bike???

For kcufs sake, three days of no coke, pies, ice cream, beer, fun and I am a kg heavier. The fat is fighting back and has declared war. Going to starve the fat cells and force them to back down!!!
