Winners for the Gemini Cycle-Friendly Awards 2008 were announced on Friday. Out of twenty-nine nominations the winners are as follows:


Avanti Award for Best Cycle Facility Project:
New Plymouth District Council for Foreshore Coastal Pathway


NZ Transport Agency Award for Best Cycling Promotion:
Tauranga City Council for Kids Can Ride – for life


NZ Transport Agency Award for Cycle-Friendly Commitment by Business:
Bike Central for Cyclist Services/Facilities at Britomart Transport Centre


ViaStrada Award for Cycle-Friendly Commitment by a Public Organisation:
NZTA for Bike Wise Week


Boulter Consulting Award for Cycling Champion of the Year
Robert Ibell - Chair of Cycling Advocates Network


The prize winners in each category were announced at a ceremony in Christchurch on Friday 3rd October. The Minister of Commerce, the Hon the Hon Lianne Dalziel, presented the awards to the finalists and winners. The winners received a uniquely designed “bicycle-bellâ€

Not surprised to see that the Wellington local govenrments haven't won anything.

...or in fact that they hadn't even made the finals.

These CAN awards are a bloody joke. They only got 12 entries, all of them from CAN associated people and they awarded the prizes to CAN people. So any other type of Club or individual that is doing anything hasn't got a chance in hell of winning anything.
MY ADVICE Avoid all CAN people They do not represent the true Mountain Biker, Road racer or recreation cyclist. They are a small nutty group strongly associated to the green party who want us all travelling around in Rickshaws

they're not there to represent mountainbikers road racers or recreational cyclists... they're the CYCLE ADVOCACY NETWORK. that means they're a NETWORK of people who ADVOCATE CYCLING, as a means of TRANSPORT, not as a toy or sports device. and who cares if they're strongly associated with the Greens.
and what would be so wrong with travelling around in rickshaws? the streets would be cleaner, safer and people would be a lot fitter...
