What is the mountain biking like in Melbourne and/or Sydney?
I have no idea as I have never been there?...thinking about heading over there for a look around, should I take my bike?
Is there any DH?, dirtjumps/parks, steep knarly single trail anywhere near these cities? not really interested in cross country.
Any advice would be appreciated

From personal experiences of Melbourne riding- its fairly average i must admit- especially if your after technical stuff.
Saying that - the You Yangs is your best bet and is about 30 mins from the City which has some very rocky and technical tracks. They also run a DH series there.
Aside from the average trails- you will also find 40+ summer heat, flies that cover your body and snakes everywhere.... but some people dig that
Your best bet is to head over to Farkin and take a lookie.....and ask some Q's...

Indeed To be fair though the You Yangs is awesome.... and I rode mainly XC so I'm sure that there are more FR/ DH tracks about. Or maybe not!
I thought i'd pass on this link.

Yeah- Melbourne is a big city- so it depends on where you are in the city.

About two hours South of Sydney there is a place called Wollongong , I believe there is some good DH there - ask on Farkin and see what replys you get. It is a cool place and not expensive like the Big Cities

I just rode about 49km around Smiths Gully today, it has to be the best single track I've ever ridden.
It's not super technical, but fast, smooth flowing, up/down gully's without too much climbing, but all the trails link up great and it just goes on and on.
For me, it was as good as Wombat State Forrest, but virtually uninhabited and kills over Lysterfield Park.
Let us know when your coming over and I'll go for a blast with you, I'm definitely going back thats for sure.

In between the 2 is where mostl the DH tracks and XC stuff is.Depends when you are coming over I could arrange some riding partners for you. DH is not my thing but know tihsloads of people who do.

Hi istepinyards , where do you live ? My mother has a house in Wollongong ( Wayne Gardener Country- remember him? ) and I am planning on getting over there about end of March next year

That singletrack looks really good, is there any Freeride (large jump/drop/structure) tracks?
What about dirt jumps? maybe urban skateparks?

If anyone finds some maps to singletrack near Wollongong, can they post it up please? My parents live there and it'd be good to go riding when I visit them next
