Yeah i agree we don't want to go and get ourselves kicked out all together, surely we can get the downhill rebuilt as it was there before the logging and didn't seem to bother anyone. . . . maybe get out and repair the ones that are still there then approach the council for permission to rebuilt DH??

That just sucks. I'm sure we will still build tracks out there. There are only 5 tracks that are fully ridable now. Gobblers Knob, The Native, PD, Kaimeleon and joiners link. everything else is been logged.

I just went down and talked to rex in kaimais, and he said we aren't allowed to build anymore tracks, only maintain the ones we have now.

The photos on the previous page are what remains of the downhill truck. I think somebody drove 100 logging trucks through it

I know I am showing my age, but you used to be able to ride up to the top of the downhill using 4wd(ish) tracks.
Do you think there is any chance of re-instating these?

Nope you cant. There used to be an oldish track that you could ride up to the top on but it's been covered by fallen trees. All the old roads have also been destroyed and now there is only one road that goes part way up which is still covered by sticks and trees.

Yes you are 
But you are right there is a 4wd track that runs to the top. Its still there and you can see it in a couple of the photos. It would need to be cleaned up to use it or make using it easier.
Its one of those if you didn't know where it was you wont know where to look for it.
Some of you guys must remember if they replant trees there some of what you rebuild will be removed maybe all of it. They also may push new tracks through so that would be more track gone.
The reason they are saying no more tracks will be they are wanting to see if this time tracks are kept up to scratch unlike the last time/s when people were building new tracks (most not even finished) instead of maintaining the old stuff there.

Mmm i think our best bet might be to go through kaimia cycles then.... organise a bit of maintainence to be done on existing tracks and possibly look to approach the council with a group of people willing to put in a bit of work to maintain the area. Once this has been done and the council see that people are willing to donate time to getting the place up to scratch then try to expand the tracks that are there, that would allow time for the recently logged area to be replanted then try for a new down hill area after the new trees are in.

I think the tracks were going well last summer but what we need is more people to ride them.
I think it would be safe to say that no more than 100 people have ever riden at temiro.
The tracks were great and wide and in good condition but they never realy got used so the gorse grew back and it got tihs again.
I have tried telling the hamilton mtb club to come and ride Te Miro but they are too busy riding in circles in there little park to come over and ride some real trails.
We just need more people and the tracks would start to maintain themselves!

XD I agree, It would attract more people if there could be a good mix of trails, something Like Jump track at rotovegas, DJ's for jumpers, xc for fit people who like to ride uphill and and another DH like the old one. Cater to a bigger variety of riders.
I know a lot of people who would head out there more often if this was the case. Good work though, the guys who have been working out there.

It would be so wicked if we could have a mtb playground like that in our backyard, Its just going to take a bit more lobbying with the council to let us build more there.
Perhaps if we said we would incorporate an art gallery into the track layout it would keep Mr Vercoe and the council happy?
