You almost got it, but not quite. What I was saying was that the same tyre (whether its UST, kevlar bead non UST, or wire bead) will rip regardless of whether it's got a tube in it.
BUT - UST's do have a thicker sidewall, which improves their strength/tear resistance. But nobody worries about tearing their non UST kevlar tyres when they've got toobs in them, so why add more weight to avoid tears that you weren't worried about before you took the tubes out.
Confused?

So let me get this straight; if I run a UST tyre with a tube I'll never get a puncture again? Does it need to be a wire bead UST tyre? Should I put some Stan's in there too?
Maybe I should just stuff the tyre with cornflakes and be done with it...

You could rename your bike the Commencal Continental.

What about a tyre in a tyre, maybe a non UST 1.8 with tube, then drill another hole in the rim and fit a UST 2.4 over the top.
No more flat tyres.. Its that simple.. Better add some zzij to be sure though. I believe you could use wire or kevlar beed for the inner tyre without too many dramas.
