I just have one simple question and that is what does mountain biking provide for you? (eg. fitness, catching up with mates, adrenaline rush, g-force, stress release or what you like about mountain biking etc.) Whatever the answer may be please leave your replies =) No need to write an essay just a couple of lines or sentences.

Thanks in advance for those who leaves their comments. Cheers.

Mountain biking provides a reason to go outside in the freezing weather, an excuse to have a good laugh with mates and poke fun at each other for crashing, relieve the stresses of the inside world and chalk up 2-3 hours of excercise for the day.

I like to ride because im good at it, but i love to be good at it because its fun

the satisfaction (e.g completing a long/difficult ride), fitness gained, stress relief, the ease of ability it gives you to get out into the middle of nowhere and the adrenaline. Good luck with your project. Smile

Keeps my fitness up, keeps me wanting to progress my skills further so I can ride up and down more technical stuff. Plus that feeling of satisfaction when you've climbed to such a high point and the view is amazing Love Also it gives me an outlet for my competitive side.

Also the "bike culture" - the circle of MTBing friends I have is great Smile

I like mountain biking because I find it a way to get away from lifes stresses and gives me the chance to put everything back into order.
I also feel so much better after riding, even if it's only for 30 mins or so.This is part of the reason I like riding to work and in my lunch breaks, it's a chance to wind down and re-energize.

Its an excuse to get outside and get dirty. Riding interesting trails and taking in the scenery all while being self contained on a marvelous contraption.

Most of all escape, whether that's a reason to spend half an hour in the garage playing with bikes, a couple of hours digging, or 5 hours back country. It's about so much more thn just riding a bike.

Below that, fitness, fun, adventure, exploration, friends, and a financially depreciating but lifestyle appreciating investment portfolio.

I am big on the escape part. I love rides where I feel like I am in the middle of nowhere with a few mates. Is heaps of fun.

There are heaps of other reasons though, the social side, the technical challenge and the escape.

I would love to put fitness, but when it comes down to it, that is a small part of cycling for me.

Yep, gotta agree with skint. Its all about escapism, focusing on the ride / bike and forgetting about all else for awhile Smile

Escapism is definately a large part of it. It's a liberating experience - you're untouchable. The key things for me are the physical & mental challenges, progressing physically & mentally and honing my skills. The adrenaline is also an obvious benefit. It can be quite a meditative experience, especially if you ride by yourself but as part of a group, it's an awesome social experience - feeding off each other. It also provides un-parallelled stress relief.
