Dunno about faster, but definitely crisp and positive. I cant compare with SRAM though, only talking Shimano. You saw my set-up at Vegas last time? 34t up front with boxguide, Ultegra shortcage out back on 12-25 road cassette (105), using a $10 LX shifter it has a really nice shift.

a lot of the 'crispness' is due to the differing spring tension on the road ders compared to mtb (road has stronger springs)
you get the same effect going to the new xt/xtr shadow rear ders (again stronger springs in the parallelogram as well as the cage pivot)

I've run 22/36 for quite a while, it shifted fine using RaceFace race rings, which do shift well IMHO, the only thing I found with it though was that climbing on a 36 wasn't that great, if I was to keep a dual ring set up I'd try 22/34 as there isn't that many places where I was in 36 and the 12 on the back
although now my trai bike has a triple ring set up, I'm just waiting for my MRP XCG to arrive , which is a Skid plate for the lower of the bike, to help with bikes with very low BB heights, as I tend to smack my pedals alot on the ground and have had a few close calls / left teeth marks with the big ring

aimed at clueless groms who'll buy it cos it's got DH on the box....sane people will buy an ultegra 9s 12-27 for 1/2 the price (plus the ultegra is lighter and spidered to be friendly to alloy hub bodies, something you should now appreciate ) |
