Don't.

08 55's are rubbish. I have seen waaay to many with air seal issues on the ATA cartridge. My boss got given some brand new ATA's and is taking them off after about 10 rides. They feel terrible.

Wait for some 09 forks or stick with Fox or RockShox.

sorry disagree there i love mine , the air cartridge played up after 5mths ( prob my own fault due to being slack checking air pressures Blush ) sent them to Wide Open on tues 4.30 and were back thurs 11.30 (excellent service guys Double Thumbs Up ) they put new cartridge in and has been fine ever since , i find think they feel bloody nice.
And with service like that have no worry's . 09 cartridges have been sorted now so would not worry about it

Notice how everone knows someone who has them, never firsthand knowledge.

I have to disagree also. 5 out 7 fox forks here at our work are currently out of action, the two still going have had half the riding, and the only ones still rocking.... MArzocchi.
I love my 55 ata. Granted the air cartridge was faulty from the manufacturererer, but they replaced it (even shipped it to Bolivia) and its been sweet ever since! Super light, plush as, I was a bit sceptical about the axle and lack of picnh bolts or similar, but its been rock solid. Uber adjustable, more tech than a NASA rocket.
I will be going to Marz for my next fork.

Oh, I've ridden them! I even had the main guy at Marzocchi Canada tell me they aren't up to scratch.
The Fox forks here in Whistler have been on poor form too. But when you see your workmates, their friends and others, on a daily basis, coming in with leaking, broken, stuck down forks, just days of riding after overhaul, you have to ask questions.

If you can tell me of another place where forks will get abused as much as they do here, then please tell me.
There is a reason most fork manufacturers hand out forks here to locals to thrash them till they fail.....

I agree with you both about the 09 Marz stuff though. I will be checking their stuff out soon.
