Make that an awful lot of people who THINK they are experienced and a handful or 2 that know what's really going on

I think even some of the most experienced builders would get a lot out of having Ric along for a workshop... I would love to have him come along to the projects I currently help with!!

Get your names in if you want to be on the course in Vegas. Opened up to Rotorua MTB members first and then anyone else. Still available spots. Plus in case you haven't noticed (for those travelling from afar) it is the day after the Whaka 100. Wink

most of the reliable diggers from our club were up there last weekend so im thinking it would be a big ask to get people up there again so soon.

If a course was down here (wellington) we would get the club to pay for 4-5 of the keener diggers to go along.

I am with Mikey - Ben Wilde, Mike and myself could host something down here with Notable speakers (Rik plus others?) and site visits to say makara and / or LG - could that happen?

Vegas is a bit of a haul and it's pretty short notice.

Is there funding for speakers to come to wellington?

I'm sure MPS would pay for a small number of members to go too. Probably WCC would be interested as well, although Stu Bailey did go down to the Christchurch one...

more like $50 a head for 20 people though Rob Wink

personally even if funding to cover the whole cost was able to be found, I would quite happily put my hand in my pocket to pay to attend. (not the whole $50 but a portion of)

Just had a wander with Ric on some trails we are working on...

Wow.

He spotted all sorts of things that we could/should be doing to build our track better!! If you can work out a way to get him there, and especially a way that you can get him out on your trails so he can give you his advice on how you are building... Definitely do it. I am sure your trails will be all the better for it!

If there were to be an on site visit to long gully i think it would be to inform others of some of the techniques we use when designing faster jump style tracks.
Granted we could learn a thing or two about drainage and stuff though.

Id be happy to do a walk through and explain what ive learnt over the last two years as would tryfan, ricky and some of the guys in Makara.
I guess what im saying is why dont we do our own local track building session that reflects the skills learnt here on the terrain and earthly materials we have in wellington.

From what ive read of the IMBA books they dont really promote the kind of things that make a good downhill track , ie steeper tracks , designing for faster average speeds or concider the possibility of sustainable downhill tracks.

Some time ago i emailed ric on this subject but never heard anything back ,which makes me wonder if sustaiable downhill tracks is something he would rather steer clear of.

I think this is an important point - quite different terrain in Rotorua compared to what we have around here. (Although it does vary around Wellington itself too...)
