I got bit on the esra by a dog on Skyline, the owner said, oh hes never done that before, like it was ok.
Dogs get freaked out by cyclists too close and freaked out=bite.

personally I have no issue with walkers in the park as I never had issue with any, but IHMO it would be nice if the ranger would go and police the lack of dogs on leads issue up there
including certain bike riders who ride with their dogs in the park?
oh, i'm guessing the ranger is likely to be quite busy, and being there at the right time would be quite a random stroke of luck?

Yeah I'm wondering if the dog got a bit freaked out when I swore as I slammed on the front brake and then decided to bite me.
Or more directly, contact the WCC Animal Control Services, ph. 801 3542

All dog attacks should be reported to the Council’s Animal Control Services. This information is necessary if there is any action taken against the dog or the owner in the future. It also helps the Council monitor dog control issues in Wellington.
Unfortunately I have no identifying features of the dog or owner I don't even know the dog type (some grey/white dog?)
While talking to the council people remind them that if they were to apply the same logic that they do to cyclists riding the path from the Met Office to the Cable Car, to this situation, they would ban all dogs from Makara Peak - and dog walkers. Oh, sorry - the "problem" on that path was "close calls", not actual accidents. (And, no I'm not advocating banning anything here - just pointing out the imbalance in some council policy making).

DON"T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THAT STRETCH OF "ROAD"....

Rotorua did have issues with dogs vs bikers back in the early 90s. The result was that bikers got banned from nearly all the tracks. That's one of the reasons Fred came along and started building fun, flowy, single track at Whakarewarewa.

Fred's about as 'old school' as they come in the MTBing world, and Welly old school appreciate the style of track he started at Whakarewarewa just as much as anyone.
The main reason Wellington has tight, technical (and also fun) tracks is 'cos we have super steep, rocky, native-bush-clad hills.
Coupla things to remember - we have the sweetest MTB access down here .We've maintained access to loads of traditional walking areas - Mt Vic, Belmont, Kaukau - as well as developing access in heaps of other places (like Hawkins Hill, Akatarawas, Eastern Hutt Hills, Wainui, LG and Makara Peak). North of Taupo nearly all tracks are segregated. Down here the councils have been a bit more relaxed - which is a reflection of the way walkers and bikers generally behave. It doesn't pay to focus on rare incidents of conflict.
Also, Makara Peak is part of an ecological corridor running from the forest parks in the north right down to the south coast. That's a big part of the reason the Council bought the land. And that's partly why we build by hand; nice and narrow. In a hundred years time when the current groms grandchildren are 'old school', Makara Peak will be 100% native forest and still have the sweet tracks we have today!!!
One other thing while I'm in 'lecture mode'. Some bikers seem to think that they have the right-of-way on all tracks built by bikers (including Deliverance, Car parts, etc). Bikers only have right-of-way at Makara Peak, and even there it doesn't pay to force the issue. If it's convenient and you stop for a walker on the peak with a cheery 'Hellooo', that helps cancel out all the times bikers have freaked walkers in other areas.
Annnnddddddd....one last thing for those getting on their high horse about dog walkers getting in the way on Ridgeline when it was built by bikers. There were dog walkers using the Ridgeline prior to the formation of the park - they accepted us bikers moving into the area - what nice people

Agree with you completely SK, but still think Celia should take the matter further as getting bitten by a dog ANYWHERE is a very serious issue. Muzz
