i am trying to remove my drive side crank arm. i have removed the non drive crank arm, unscrewed the bearing cup (pretty sure that is what its called)as far as it will go and am not too sure what step to do next. am on the net looking how.
i am sure the next step will be easy but feel like an idiot for not knowing it
cheers

Hit it with a hammer
Seriously
Soft headed one on the end of the spindle that should be poking out of your bb shell.
So you don't ruin the other cup I'd put the non-drive side cup back in just so the spindle doesn't skew off when you hit it.
I had to hit mine with a bit of force last time.
Greasing the spindle ftw!

Send your buggered BB off to Dougal at Shockcraft and get him to press some Enduro bearings into it

Had the same problem with my XT's: about a year of use before i had to replace them. A year later and they seem to be binding again - not too impressed. I have just bought some Enduro bearings that apparently you can press into your existing cups, and they have much better seals, so hopefully life will be good again soon. I bought them off trademe for about half what the LBS charge for XT cups.

also I would check frame has been faced correctly, os that both bb shell faces are aligned, this will lenthen the life of the BB
I've had well over 2 years out of a shimano XT bb, with frequent use

Just strip the BB and re-grease it every 3 or 4 months...
I have a tihsty raceface BB on my SS, and I strip and repack it about once every 2 weeks.
