Wow guys, the tracks looking amazing. Sorry to seem like a ssabmud but where exactly is it? Directions? I'm keen to help out and keen to ride it as well.
It is in Long Gully, it is the track that the race in the weekend was held on.

A bunch of us turned up in the rain yesterday to play in the mud at the bottom of jawbone. We've got the entrance into the "easy" line finished (it's still very damp though, so it would pay to stay off the track at the moment), as well as a nice kicky gap next to the wooden ladder.

Mike and I stayed until about 5pm, and built a new optional line off the easy exit that will lead to a banked wooden drop - probably around 2m high - onto the downhill-straight before the last corner.

The bottom of jawbone is turning into option city...

Yeah. Assuming we've got enough wood (and it's not raining too much for the insta-crete to set), the "bermed drop ramp" should be built next time we're out there. I can see it in my head - I just hope that it comes together as good...

Also, me and mike talked about armouring some of the lower track. It's probably because we've been building it recently, so it's soft, and there has been a ton of rain of late, but the lower part of the easy line is very sloppy. Getting some gravel/small rocks in there would really help to hold it all together - if we can get a kango-hammer in it'll be able to make short work of some of the rocky banks and provide us with enough broken rock to put down on the track...

at this stage im not going to take my bike to the next jawbone dig , just really want hammer through a section or two and make a big dent on what needs to be done so we can start on a larger project further up the track.

what i'll probably do fill the car up with 1.6m planks ,it might only be 10-12 but it should get you through jono. i think the post spade is in the blue bin down by tripple jumps
alternativly go a buy one that will last and i'll fix you up, actually i'll pick one up , it'll get used heaps.

( This is a post i made on another thread that i figured should be attached to this disscussion)

Everyone has a different idea on what the problem is and how it should be solved.
Ive personally aligned my ideals around providing for those that the race driven downhill community tend to forget about , ie the less experienced wanting to get into the sport and get better and those that want to enjoy downhilling without the pressure, obstacles and suck alternative lines found on race tracks. i guess you could say im following a similar reasoning to Whister type parks.

What im doing is not the best way to solve the perceived downhill problem but its one aspect thats important to me and what keeps going and its what im prepared to give so much time for.

I'll still run the odd race but im more interested in building a track that is more fun than race challenging.

I also like to think that we might retain more of the older riders before they retire to shorter travel bikes and move to other riding areas. Ive got a few mates who dont get out enough to keep their confidance to do big gaps, i think it gets them down a bit having to do all the easy lines on the harder tracks.

What im doing is really my interpretation to whats mentioned on the membership form:

Note: LG is, and has always been about experienced Downhill riders and racers building high skill level tracks and jumps for themselves to practice and race on that can’t be built legally on council land.

The way i see it is that LG is the place you go to build whatever you want , there's never been any clause to say there has to be race commitment its always just been assumed. its so good to have this total freedom , im just supprised more people dont come and make use of it like this.

Personally i dont really think any of the current tracks in Long Gully really cater for any racers that go touring and at some point a new more challenging trail should be made with more rough elements where riders have more potential to loose time.

I'm still dreaming up something to do when I get a chance that might be along the lines of a new race line. Keen to do a wander around one dig day to see whats possible if you're able to share some advise. Hopefully my weekends will start freeing up a little soon.[/quote]

Well - the track was running pretty damned fine over the weekend (especially after the dry pebbles had cleared around lunchtimes).
Anyways, it got me to thinking - one feature that I would really like to see somewhere in the track/park is a transfer double - basically a kicker with the transition being split in half - so that you can either hip to the left or the right.

there used to be one at castlerock in the waikato - on the freeride track - and it was really fun (once I got my head around it). To make it work, we would ideally need a bit of "flat" land (or at least somewhere that is flat enough) - the first place that springs to mind is the point where jawbone splits off to the goat road.
