Soft-shell (specifically thinking of the gel stuff that has been released of late) knee/shin and elbow armour is approved now, and there is a quick introduction from mtbnz on why they introduced the new policy.

yep i dont like the "must wear arm guards with short sleeve", the "only hard shell pads" and the "no knees with shorts, must be knee and shin" Means either i have to spend up on arm guards that i hate and wont wear unless forced and either my TLD shorts become useless or i have to buy knee& shin protection that i will only wear for nationals.
