Just a thought.........is it worth covering the surface of the new wooden structure on 491 with chicken wire or something similar to help with grip (similar to the wooden "walkway" section on Swigg)? I rode it yesterday for the first time and although the weather was dry my tyres were still pretty slick with mud and any extra traction on the smooth wood surface as you hit the start of the ramp would be nice!!
Also are there any trail building sessions coming up? I'd be keen to come along and lend a hand.......

I think the contractor is currently finding a solution for this. We'll let you know asap. I think there is trail building this coming weekend (saturday)

WORKING BEE - I will be working on 491 and spoonhill tracks this SAT
I will be leaving PARKWAY PARK AT THE BOTTOM OF SPOON HILL TRACK AT 9.30 and will start by clearing an access track for Sundays PNP racers between spoon hill and the Waiu St waste ground.
Following this I will be heading up to 491 to armour the greasy section with found rock. This should ensure that the race through this section will be the fun filled speed disco it should be and not a poor imitation of a ladies jelly wrestling night..
Your attendance and help on Sat would be much appreciated - Bring gloves water and humour and I will bring some morning tea.
Thanks in advance if you can come help..
Meet in Parkway park at 9.15am ish..
Ta muchly - Tryfan.

I'd hazard a guess that the Spoonhill Bypass bypasses Spoonhill?

About 120m down spoonhill you turn left onto spoon hill bypass (actually called 491).
it then rejoins spoonhill 491m down the track.

Interesting name - I assume it comes from the length of the bypass?

Probably a good example of how not to set a track name, e.g. late in a meeting without a proposed short list...
Had several people think it's a trig point altitude |

Better than the 139 emails sent around the makara Peak committee to name Lazy Fern
