Here are the new(I think) requirements for wearing body armor at nationals. I found them on the bikenz website

The waiver has no legal clout, after a judge or two set some silly precedents

Yea great!!! Forking out more money to replace my already adequate knee and elbow pads and buy other gear cos It doesn't meet requirements. What ever happened to the rider waiver?

It would appear that we aren't allowed to be responsible for ourselves any more.

This is great 'cause when I hurt myself, I can blame some other poor basdrat instead of facing the reality that I'm a dumb kcuf

{Posted via mobile.vorb.org.nz} think of it from the land owners point of view, when they get hauled into court because little jonny got a cut on his knee, and the judge askes them to prove that they took all practicable steps to prevent injury on their land. . . .

If its your land and your race, make your own rules - otherwise, play by the rules or dont play at all Smile

If I'm gonna be paying for you morons on ACC for months I'll be happier knowing you at least had some protective gear on at the time! I’m just waiting for them to make mouth guards compulsory...

It would be quite interesting if there was some way to see the breakdown of ACC covered injuries. I would put money on a greater percentage of ACC claims coming from
weekend warrior type riders rather than those "moron" racers at national events.

So in seniors you can wear a long sleeve jersey with at least 3/4 length sleeves, and you don't have to wear elbow guards.

Yet if you wear a short sleeve shirt you have to wear elbow guards. WTF is 1/4 more sleeve going to protect?

They could do what they did with snowboarding. If you don't wear a wrist guard and you break your wrist you have no cover..... although wearing a wrist guard puts more pressure on the rest of your arm when you fall......

Everybody should turn up with just knee pads and no elbows. See what bikenz do then Satan

it actually looks like its mtbnz's policy rather than bikenz's - be good if there was an explanatory para on why its been introduced. who was at the agm? wasn't it discussed there?

Yea, I'm not sure it's been thought out as thoroughly as you would expect. It rules out the use of lightweight body armour for a start (which most would be happy to wear), all the 661 veggie/kyle straight etc stuff. TLD t-bones and heaps more.

In a lot of cases, the hard shelled stuff is heavier, hotter and slips down your arm/leg when you crash provding little to no protection at all.

It's all too pedantic. People should take responsibility for their own safety at races, and generally they do so I don't see a problem..

No, we can blame politicians, and then the judicial system for some really bad interpretations of the law Tongue it
