I will give my honest opinion, as this is what you have asked for.

First and foremost, you should have bought a BMX. I was in the "MTB" street scene a while ago, theres an extent at which you can take it to, then it gets boring. So, i bought a BMX. Its a kajillion times more fun, and more rewarding. So, you have a mountain bike, for the time being just carry on what you are doing. try 180s, rollbacks, abubaca's fufanus etc. Stop taking the forrest skills to the street, skinnys and stuff dont belong. Lose your front brake, it cuts off all the gay stuff. Just keep having fun, exploring new things etc etc etc.

Yeah, i had a bmx, but i just seem to have more fun on my mountainbike.

Also, it has been built up as a trail/dirt jump bike, but i couldnt really be bothered going up into the hills today.

Im keeping the front brake because i love riding my hardtail on trails and light downhill, like Mt.Vic, but anywhere near something like LG and the big bike comes out

I also find street is all about learning a trick, and then applying it. Say, you learn 180's on flat. Then you take it to a ledge, then you take it to a 4 set, then you take it to the skatepark. Also, when airing quarter pipes, get about 3 times the speed you have, and wait till you reach the coping, THEN lift and turn around. Takes a while to get the hang of. Keep going though, dont be put off by my brutal comments {Tongue it}

Like how? apart from peg grinds (we still can chain-stay grind) Maybe you just weren't any good at street?

Keep at it Dude, persistence is the key.
