I've noticed pretty much all my riding mates have given up due to cars and drugs. I'm also kinda sick of wellington downhill anyway so mostly just travel outside of wellington to ride. I'd be keen to ride with anyone else who's keen when my wrist gets better though.

I'm keen to find some other people to ride with wanting to do some DH over summer. Gets pretty damn boring riding by yourself the whole time.

i think itsa combo of the maidstone track out for the time being, winter and of course the wainui trail project.
Theres always tracks like Danzig and Beline, there not like your general downhill race track but still enough to learn how to ride tight lines with a few very minor jumps here and there. and dont forget about Kapiti for mad hux!

I'm keen to help out where possible, over this winter I haven't tended to get out on the bike much due to darker nights and snowboarding a lot of weekends. When summer rolls around I'll be keen to lend a hand digging and if people want to shuttle LG some times and peer pressure each other we can do that.

It's a pity DH isn't more like BMX, where a lot more of the parents get stuck in. | I'm thinking about coming outa retirement for the master games next year. Should be a tad more sedate than a nationals race I hope. They is the too scary for me now | What date are ages taken from for the Masters Games?

Funny this thread appearing, when just this week I have been approached by someone looking to open up an area to MTB riders, with a road to the top and 400+m of elevation
still in uber early stage discussions mind - but work is being done to keep things alive in welly.

Hardly any races ever on, never any news or people building wee downhill runs anywhere. I know it takes people to organise events and stuff, and I know I dont do any work there, but latly it feels like the wellington DH scence is dead, well thats just my views on the matter.

Harry,
it's like most things in life... it does not come to you, you have to go to it.
Races and Track building does not happen with out man power.
I think if anything... peoples enthusiasm to get of the bum and lend a hand has diminished,
But than again – it is winter and that always happens.
There has been a lack of Races held in Wellington over the last year & that unfortunately comes down to a few things. Mainly we put all of the WMTBC man power into organizing & running the National MTB champs. But with Vehicle access issues at Long Gully, No Access to Terafitti whilst the wind farm is being built & Maidstone having been logged & now being re-built, its a bit hard to run local events.

Keep an eye out on this thread http://www.vorb.org.nz/ftopic-56479-6960.html
And don't be fooled by the name – There is a group of about 20+ locals who use this thread to organise rides for most weekends & we welcome people to join us.

we used to have a pretty good thing going on over previous years with track building on Saturdays at LG and shuttles afterwards... was a pretty good scene really with a good mix of old and young. Seems to me like it died when i stopped track building on the race track early this year (other commitments). What it needs is for someone to pick it up again. Evidently all the people who used to help me out have stopped as well, so yeah just needs someone to get a scene going. pretty easy really.
Mike, Jono and co are working on Jawbone at LG, but they dont mind peddling their bikes around and aren't so concerned about shuttles, so like i say it just needs someone to step up, do some work up there and organise some riding
