Failures who cant get a real job = Runners
Failed Runners = Roadies
Failed Roadie = MTB'er
Failed MTB'er = in a PSych ward

Na, runners are just people who can't ride at all - and like to wear bad 70's shorts.

What gets my gander is this holier than tho' attitude that unless there are drop offs its not a XC event. There are varieties of courses which require varieties of bikes. The Beijing event was suited more to Hard Tails and for me that didnt detract from who they were as athletes.

There is nothing 'holier-than-thou' in recognising that half the field are failed Roadies and that that kind of XC does not represent what Mountain Biking is about for the vast bulk of riders, regardless of the athletic ability of those riders. What's got your gander is that I am right on the money - is that holier-than-thou enough for you?
You mean like DH doesn't also represent what mountainbiking is about for the vast majority of riders. Or the shore stuff that Shandro sometimes rides in videos, which the majority of riders can't ride. Your point is failing somewhat to impress

I don't think DH represents mountain biking either, but guys like Shandro can ride different terrain and styles, which is why I hold guys like him in higher regard than both Julain Absalon and Steve Peat. If the Olympics is only going to have one mountain bike event then it shouldn't be a B grade road race.

As an aside, who id the better mountain biker - Absalom or Peat?

[gross generalisation] Put most DHers in a XC race, and they will do reasonably well. Put the XCers in a DH race, and things could get interesting...

DH would be a better choice over the XC race offering. It was pretty boring to watch the XC to say the least.
