Heard a nasty rumour that the Redwoods has been 'closed' today, until at least tomorrow. Anybody have the official word on this or know where I might find out?

I have organised a club ride there tonight. Weather aint all that bad in Tauranga (yet).

Went for a ride in there about 8am this morning. As I was leaving security were turning up and telling people to leave. Something to do with trees possibly being blown over by the high winds that are expected

I was at the redwoods about a year ago with a group giving them a newbie tour. I got a bit ahead of the group and was by myself waiting on the A Trail. The wind was a howling SW in the treetops, but no wind to speak of on the trail.
As Im waiting I hear a tree start to creak a bit, then a bit more. I looked around and saw a monster redwood about 6 metres away slowly starting to fall over! It took a couple of seconds to figure out it wasnt falling my way and the safest options was to stay put and enjoy the show. It made a hell of a sound as the trunk cracked and hit the ground, and it took out lots of branches on the way down which rained down around me.
Like in pulp fiction, it was almost a religious experience.
