Are we just a one trick nation?

On the drive to work today they were going on and on about the rugby in the week end, and that if the all blacks lose the whole nation will go into morning. And also there was a study done a in the past that proved that our countries performances is affect by how well we did in the rugby over the weekend.
So does this show that we are just a one trick country?

As New Zealanders are we just like a girlfriend of a small town red neck town ball player in the deep south of the states it is just about to make it big, and is hoping that she can keep her man so that when he makes it big and goes off to the big city that he will take her with him and she can escape her life at the waffle house.

Are we just trying to ride on the shirt tails of the all blacks?

What says you guys?

It would appear that way, but which is it?

do we [ as a nation ] care so much that they warrant all the media attention, or does the nation care as a result of having it force fed to us?

[/rant]

disclaimer: I could care less about rugby.

Personally, I don't care. I think that the whole sport hype thing is a media creation to try and make sure that the punters are tuning into their channel at the weekend, and sell more advertising in the process.

Ditto, and it is not as if sport obsession is limited to this country.

True. Being in the UK during the world cup was interesting. The english prefer a good french loss to a good english win Wink

Although the NZ public psyche does seem to have a somewhat bi-polar (or "decision choices learnt from the internet") approach to life. Everything has to be black or white - we either completely rock or completely suck.

At least there was a long section on Ken from welly (the unicyclist) on TV3 news last night. Personally, I'm planning on watching batman on saturday rather than anything to do with the rugby.

Yes, I'm personally mortified by the lack of Olympics coverage. However will the poor Olympics cope? It must be a tough time for them. Sad
