Im with Nick, too much bike for epics. Depends on your definition of epic though.
But for 6 hour jungle missions I would want something lighter.

*Disclaimer. I'm a xc jeyboi and think 25pounds is getting heavy. |
see that's where we differ - I do most of my training on the big/heavy bike - means when I just back on the 23lb hardtail it's like it rides itself up the hills.
wheras if you ride all the time on the light bike you'll never get mad strong and have quads the size of slackboys!

Its my only bike and I find it a great do-it-all.
I could ride it all day, currently set up 1x9, 36ish pounds (Im a cycle Postie though....)
Lighter tyres and clipless pedals for the XC type stuff, a shade under 34 pounds (eg: the Moonride), and flats and knobblies for everything else,
$2600 is a great deal on the X. Id go for it, but it all comes down to how and what you are most likely to be riding.

I've never got to the top first...you could chuck me on some XC carbon thingy and most half decent riders on LT bikes would beat me.I don't do XC.
I plod up hill...but love the Downs...fast, tech,rocky,rooty,bush,twisty...singletrack....thats what I love.
16kg(whats that in lbs??) is getting up there but some bikes hide their weight(or so I've heard)..and the lighter wheelset is an option.
also I'm on a budget...Mortgage has my nuts in a jar.

16kg = 35.27 lbs
Sounds like from your above statement that it would be spot on. I am like you and will plod all day looking forward to that intense techy blast back down the hill. Why is it every time you go into a bike shop they start talking "race" and "how fast this and that will make you" - hell I did that shiat years ago, now I just wanta ride
Anyway, good luck with it
And you are correct - some bikes do hide their weight. My Speccy Epic weighs 11.8kg ( 26lbs ) complete and climbs unbelievably - someone on this forum called it heavy - yeah what ever - weight weenies . Dont get too hung up on the weight thing - seriously

no point having a light bike if you don't have the legs/lungs to go with it - I've ripped people on whippet bike's legs off on the 'heavy' reign (33lb) - the combo of fitness (and a willingness to suffer) plus lots of travel meaning you can be very slack on line choice uphill as well as down is good

As some one who is in a similar place riding wise to you, ie I'm not that fast up the hill, no matter what I ride (I know I need to do some work) but love techy descents, I would buy the rein, it sounds like a great little bike, but get some weight off the wheels (sensibly, you still want tyres that give you lots of grip, and reliable rims)
I'm currently riding a Turner RFX/SPot hybrid and am happy to ride all day in the hills on it and I enjoy the downs, but I can do big climbs on it (it just takes a wee while) currently it weighs 35 pounds approx, but that is with big rubber and hope mono 6 Ti's, and with lghter tyres I have ridden 24solo moonride on this bike
The other $$ I would spent would be on a Gravity Dropper / Joplin / Q Shifter

I know you want a dually but for that budget you could build up a really sweet steel framed AM hardtail!
Of course you would need to buy the parts off shore. My Cove for example came in shy of $2600 with a splash of King, Thomson and other bits.
A budget of $2600 buys a hell of a bike these days as long as you are happy to do some research and put in some effort.
Just a thought

Totally not true. Why on earth should somebody have to have a certain level of fitness to justify lighter tires, for example?
As a heavy slow rider with a 29lb and a sub 24 lb bike and two things are obvious:
1. A light bike is much more fun to ride, especially if the weight is saved in tires and/or rims. More agile, more zippy etc.
2. climbing is a little faster.
Thers is no doubt the fitness of the rider is by far the largest determining factor in grinding up an incline, but there is far more to mountainbiking than that.
