Tioga also do a pretty mean mud tyre (black turtle I think) and there are also the Michelin Mud 3s, which are awesome!

if your riding maxxis

High rollers are for dry conditions to slightly damp -
Minnions are for hard pack and seem to work better in dust than high rollers
swamp things are good when its sticky wet and there are rocks
wet screams work when its ssiping down and a mud bath (although i use michelin mud's when its really wet)

it's annoying that they only do the swampthing in 2.50/dual ply now - the 2.35 singleply ones made awesome winter trail tyres for the port hills Double Thumbs Up

people did tend to have me on about 'running DH tyres on a XC bike' - however they'd usually shut up when you rode away from them up slippery tech climbs (which they'd end up walking)

Marleens still had them in a 2.1 at the start of winter (and single wall 2.35), which seem to be quite a decent size 2.1, I ran a set for a few rides on my N-zone before I left palmy I am surprised that they have stopped tem

I was too - but if you look on the maxxis site only 2.5/dp now Sad Leaves a huge gap between the skinny little medusa and 2.5 swampy - guess it's going to do great things for the sales of Schwalbe Muddy Marys

I used the 2.3 single plys when we lived in Palmy, best tire i used at k-loop. I didn't ride that much that year, so as it happens i have 2x 2.3 NEARLY NEW swamp things if anyone is interested... $50 gets you both!

In wellington; not really any time to fiddle around posting things this week and then away for 6 so pick up only at this stage.

PM me if keen. Double Thumbs Up

on singletrack - very true!

however laps up/down boring farm tracks (rapaki/vernon/worsleys/kennedys) on full mud tyres in the pouring rain is better than sitting inside going stir crazy Double Thumbs Up
