I am looking forward to it, should be a good series and fits nicely with a promise I made to myself to do more road racing this year and less mountain bike racing.
I was just looking at the calendar, there are a lot of graded races which suits me down to a tee.

I think I will get beaten to a pulp in C grade for a while just to see how I am going. Hopefully I will improve throughout the season!

I've been planning on going for a couple of road steams shortly to break up the MTB stuff. The PNP series looks like a bit of a laugh

You'd love it Mono, steaming and fuming all over the show!

I'm debating Break2/3 again. Settled on Break 3 last year - and then with the "timing issues" at the start of BP1 last year had to ride Break2. Hung in there and survived - uber fun.
But less time on the bike this year makes me think 3 could be the go...

Out of interest, WTF is this break/scratch stuff? Is that for when I fall off?

The BP series are handicap, and the slowest bunches are started first. Riders get series points according to their handicap time. Limit starts first, then Break 4, Break 3, Break 2, Break, then Scratch, who from memory got about a 20 minute handicap generally.

so roughly speaking;
Scratch = A grade
Break = A/B Grade
Break 1 = B grade
Break 2 = B/C grade
etc through to Limit = E grade
you do seem to be in good form for this time of year but i would suggest starting in Break 1 and just adjust to road racing. you can move between the different grades no worries the following week if you feel you want to move up to break.

Pretty sure there's no Break 1 - just Break then Break 2? (but yeah - those comparisons are bang on, roughly speaking)
So Mono - with handicap races it is still first across the line wins outright. So if a slower bunch (who starts before the faster bunches) works together well they can in theory hold off the faster guys behind them and win the race outright. In a perfect world if the handicapper got it right, all the bunches would catch one another at the finish. But on some of the narrower courses they put extra time gaps in between bunches to try and avoid this happening...
The thing with handicap races is to get your bunch to work well together, as you want to stay together to try and win on handicap. Attacking your bunch doesn't go down too well! Well, not until the last couple of km anyway

Are they still planning on using the Burnham Wharf to Lyall Bay and back course for the first race? That road is pretty dodgy now with it down to one lane on the descent / climb out of Breaker Bay. Not to mention the dratered traffic calming devices in Scorching Bay.
