Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone knew of or had a file converter that changed avi files to vob files? I want to be able to take avi video files from my computer and put them on a dvd to be able to be played through my dvd player. Does anyone know of a converter that can do this for me for free and do the full video length?

Links to download would be great.

Thanks

Nick

Pretty sure one of the versions of Nero can do this for you - sorry I'm not sure which one. Also not sure if it is free Blush

Otherwise you'll need some DVD authoring software, I use Sony DVD Architect and it's pretty good (but not free - well, not legally anyway)

If you're editing the stuff first, render them to MPEG2 first, as that is the compression used on a DVD. Any authoring software will be able to convert from AVI though, but will just take longer. So I pretty much always edit and render to MPEG2, and then turning to a DVD i really quick.

Yeah, I meant to mention that earlier - converting to vob and burning to a disc won't necessarily mean it will play in a non-pc dvd player. Sure it is the right file type, but the authoring sortware creates the file structure etc that the dvd player understands.

You could try putting your vob file into a folder called "VIDEO_TS" - as this is what the player is expecting, but it is more than likely that there is more to it than that (like the fact that dvd's get broken into separate vob files that are 1,048,404 kb in size)

As ThingOne says, get Nero. The one with the option to "create DVD".

Nero is a no brainer.

Something like Adobe Encore if you want a geeky package with more control.

Nero does a simple drag n drop avi with generic menu dvd writer.
