dratered, why not remove it from food or something useful, more people will not ride bikes if they're made a bit cheaper, you can already get bikes for next to nothing... what a waste of space!

So bike shops would have to add up on the till the non gst bike parts, the gst labour and gst food and magazines (energy bars and nz mtb type mags)???
It is a slightly farcical idea.
In the UK tax is different on basic food to luxury food. You pay more tax on biscuits with chocolate on them, than biscuits with sugar sprinkles, cos chocolate biscuits are a luxury.
If anything, we should be encouraged to buy longer lasting bike bits, and not cheap throw away rubbish or uber hi tec short life span bike bits. Swiss Military bikes all round!

I know - there doesn't seem to be a realisation that the simplicity of the GST system (EVERYTHING GETS TAXED) is one of its best points.
Mongs.

What's import duty on bikes and bike parts these days?
Surely better to appeal to drop that?

I think there's no duty (well, apart from the standard GST of course) on bikes or bike parts, but there is on helmets?

I think that may be because helmets are (or were...) made in NZ.... Except they're not high quality ones, of course, they're the $40 jobs that have the shell stuck to the core with electrical tape

Seems to be a lot of people who would be gravely disappointed if their LBS dropped prices by 12.5%. Despite the chance of the petition actually achieving anything, do ya'll have more money than sense

But they do have the safety check sticker on the inside, so you know it's good!
