Rode Rameka on Sat. Was pretty dry. Pity most of the vertical descent is on 2wd road. This afternoon went for a quick sift, walters bluff, centre of nz, old codgers, cleveland tce singletrack, new rec track then home.

A really good way of doing the Rameka is to incorporate it into a bigger ride ....
The one we do the most is to park your car in 'Clifton'and ride up the road to 'Birds Clearing' then ride over and into the Wainui Hut on technical beech forest singletrack then ride out towards the 'Canaan Downs' and 'Harwoods Hole' turning right at the Rameka sign and down the Rameka track and back round to your car as a complete loop this is a fairly epic ride that takes upwards of 5 hours but gives you some awesome riding and plenty of isolation and wilderness with the Rameka to finish.

Was the first time I rode Rameka. Probably wont be doing it again. All of the descent is unfortunately on 2wd road. If the singletrack was steeper it would be good, there was only really 2mins of downhill singletrack. Sad

Really annoyed that I didnt get to ride Killdevil. Its taken me 2 years to get over to takaka and ride rameka, will probably take another 2 years to go over and ride killdevil.

Yeah Kill Devils an awesome trail. We had a pretty epic ride up there last school summer holidays. Rode from the start picking our desending lines all the way up the 50 something switchbacks. Then got to the top of the ridge and along to Riordans Hut which took about 5 hours or so.

I think this is where most people turn back because most books the directions end at this hut. But we decided to keep going down off the top of the ridge to the river below and followed onto Waingaro Forks Hut. We arrived back at the start after 91/2 hours so pretty stuffed to be honest.

Made the Rameka a bit interesting as well last winter riding it in the snow.

Saturday involved the rider friendly climb to the Fringe lookout then onto the absolute blast known as Peaking Ridge, out of the Maitai and back to the Start of Marty's trails and down ol'Codgers and the new beginners tracks...

Tuesday was Turners+extension back around to do IV line and back again to do Turners and Dead Dogs. Those trails are in excellent condition.

Wednesday I spent the day up the Richmond hills riding some old favourites. rediscovering some old ones not ridden for a while and discovering some new. Very nice dh track running through the pines next to the Richmond Firebreak with all the jumps. Cut short by the Skid site at the top. Here's a pic from the top of one of the drops.
