Posted: Thu 3rd Jul 2:52pm Post subject: XC: Pnp Mtb Bunch Ride: This Sunday 6th July - Wellington |
 |
|
Calendar Event: July 6, 2008 Attendees: Definite(2) - Total: 2 - Expected: 2 - View This Sunday's MTB Bunch ride will leave the regular Makara Peak carpark, bottom of Koru, South Karori road at 8.30am.
The less hardout group is currently looking for a route and someone to 'lead' it.
If you have an idea for a good route and would like to volunteer, please email Celia 'Superhard' Lie mailto:runaspism@hotmail.com. She is doing a Duathlon this Sunday so can't be with us. Alternatively you could shout on this thread. Failing someone volunteering, the ride will be a 'pot-luck' route.
The plan for the more hardout group is another fantastic excursion around some excellent Wellington trails, some of which will be bread and butter to you all and some which you might have wisely avoided. Route will go roughly as follows:
Koru - Sally Alley - Missing Link - Aratihi - T3 - Vertigo - Varley's - Zaks - Leaping Lizard to Sth Karori Rd exit - Salvation (unless another interesting option is discovered) to above Red Rocks via start of Tip Track - right before Red Rocks descent, down into valley, hard climb out to Radar station, home via Deliverance.
Shorter and more technical than the last ride and a good opportunity to get onto T3 and Vertigo with a good few people around to sparce you off the deck.
These rides are proving very popular and riders are having a really good time in their ever growing numbers. If you have not made it out to join us yet, it would be great to see you out on Sunday.
Looking forward to seeing you out.
My contact details for any queries are 021 1316572 and mailto:davealdredATgmail.com
Cheers
Davo

I spent all day yesterday packing and moving that I forgot to sign up for the duathlon! (Entries closed last night). Hopefully I'll be able to enter on the day (although there will be a late fee), but failing that, I may be able to make it back to Karori in time for this ride

Mono - SS is running. But only one brake after probs. Either will fix or do massive skids at you. You out mate?
Celia - Where are you guys moving too? Don't worry about the Duo, would have been expensive and fairly dull. Although you should train up for the Crazyman and Porirua Duo's next year. They rock.

We're moving to just down the road from where we were.
Yay! They accepted late entries on the website for the duathlon this weekend, so I've just put my entry in
The Crazyman duathlon is my major goal for next year. Hence the duathlon this weekend as a bit of training (I've never done a duathlon in my life!). What's the Porirua one?

Scotty's not working tomorrow, but if you leave it in the workshop, he'll find it on Sunday

The PGT is awesome. The run butchers the legs.

Definitely harder than the Crazyman. I thought the Crazyman run was great. The PGT run was a massacre.
I would love to answer any q's on either if you had any. MJ who came out on the first bunch ride, won the PGT Duo. She is a gun runner.
I love those events. So much more interesting than the usual. Much harder than things like Karapoti imho.

Karapoti was definitely no walk in the park this year, but I felt like something different to aim for for next year, since I met my target for Karapoti this year (although faster would always be good! - MJ kicked my esra at Karapoti )
I'm no runner (have only just started running the past couple of weeks), so any advice/pointers on how to train for such events would be great Dave

I started running in March 07. You can make great progress in a few months . Start steady and build up gradually. Try and avoid road. trail running is much better for soul and legs. Shoe Clinic are clever at making sure you have the right shoes. We'll chat about it next time we are out.
Start little and often.
Karapoti is easier compared to some big offroad runs because unlike a bike race, there is no freewheeling, and your tired climbing legs get smashed further on the descents. awesome.

Trying to find some special shorts for the occasion.

Weather looks good for tomorrow, just an early shower maybe, then wind drops off and Speedos can come out.
Mono - Are how many gears for you tomorrow?
If you bring your SS make sure you flip your bars up the right way as we'll be mountain biking rather than fashion biking.
