About time we started getting active in our protests......need to stop being so bloody British and get a bit more Gallic!
The French literally protest about nothing, like the annual mayday protests which are about what?
The Farmers protests in France have suceeded in keeping 80% of french farm subsidies in the hands of 5 enormous agricultural companies.
I'm with Scotty, kcuf the truckies, they've shat where they eat too often in the past. Hopefully the increased costs will teach 'em to slow down and drive less like they own the road.

A bunch of whiny little hctibes would be a better term.....
1) EVERYONE IS DOING IT HARD kcuf-KNCUCKLES.
2) You were given warning last time and that led to outright wholesale abuse of the system. Now you wanna cry about it?
3) 18 wheels really REALLY kcuf the road, if you were to do a weight/wheel comparison you'd probably find truckies don't do so bad! (not the most salient of points, I know...)
4) Truckies will just do what they usually do anyway, and pass the cost onto the consumer.
Interesting this is happening in the same week the gubberment got rail too...
No sympathy from me (in case the tone of my post hadn't got that across)
I'm not sure of the figures etc... but would have thought that since they use a parcload more fuel than everyone else they already pay a tihsload more taxes, let alone their existing RUCs... like I said, I'm not sure of the stats behind it all
The common motorist feels they are being F'd in the A with the current fuel prices, surely the truckies must feel like they're getting it from both ends - a good ol' spit roasting.

Having run a fleet around Auckland for some years the amount we paid in Taxes, we did own the road.

I'm guessing you, like many people, work an 8 hour day, and have many advantages brought to you as an employee that would not be there if it were not for union protests.
Mayday is to remember the social and economic acheivements of the labour (NOT the labour party per se) movement. Without the formation of the Unions, business, government and others would have mass control of the workers and we would have slave labour conditions.
It ssipes me off how many people these days refuse to join unions to support their actions when they have no idea of the history of the union movement or what it was like in the past. Many of the conditions, hours of work, and other benefits you get today were provided by Union protest and negotition.
By the way, 'may day' has nothing to do with the french. It is about an incident that occured Chicago, Illanois. The first country to institute it as a 'holiday' was Australia in 1856.

Back on topic, I'm all for the truckies protest. They had an agreement with the minister, she has gone and broken that agreement, which will result in financial loss for the truckies.
