Still dont understand why no ones engineered one of these to live in the bb. Shouldnt be that hard to do and would be better mechanicaly.

NZMTB said $1800. pretty steep for a hub, gearbox or not. Do they have custom spokes? since the hub is so big theyd have to have shorter spokes Eh?

Rohloff Silver disc hub is $1600
Rohloff Red and Black disc hubs are $1650.
(Note the prices with change with the ever falling exchange rate)

You need to allow for the Rohloff disc at $100 for 160mmm
New Sapim double butted spokes are $35.00 for a set of 35, you only need 32 for the hub but you get three spare as there not normally avalible from your LBS.

Don't forget to allow for wheel building and more than likely a new rim.

This is the ONLY piece of bike kit that I have ever owned and sold, and regretted selling.

They are not perfect, but they are f*******n good. Most of the advantages of singlespeed, with a decent gear range for chicken legs.

And before you ask, the disadvantages:

You have a VERY heavy rear wheel, so you need to run a decent rear rim, and tyre, and maybe DH tube. I used to get a lot of pinchflats on my hardtail particularly because you tend to slam the rear wheel into stuff a bit.

Less so when I had it on a FS bike.

The other thing is it is quite heavy. My Klein went from 25 pounds to 27.5 pounds (from memory) when it went on there.

Personally if I was doing a lot of riding, I would have one like a shot.

Ideally a g-boxx version in a carbon or Ti FS frame, with 5 inch travel, built to 27 or 28 pounds.

You would never need to buy another bike. Really.

Also Rohloff chains are the best chain I have EVER used. Ive got one on a commuter singlespeed that was secondhand when it went on there, gets used a lot, and is now about five years old.

value for money? tihs yes!

And wrap it in carbon fibre, give it downhill geometry and travel, make it in NZ and, oh...

It's already been done? Crazy
