Just to add an additional perspective, its not always about the job its more about the environment, sometimes a change of scene can make a huge difference, having gone thru various stages of deciding to change careers and then changing employers instead and being tons happier I know what its like Blush

I looked at joining the thin blue line 2 - 3 years ago but decided against it because of the shift work and the pressure it puts on the relationship ....now I wish I had just done it.
I talked to Tim about it and my cousin who is a cop and think I would have really liked it.

you would make an awesome cop pulsar Double Thumbs Up dont know you that well but from the few times I have meet you I think you have the sort of guts that is needed to do the job bloody well

There's always prison work for a change - elements of policing and teaching?. My mate did that for five years at Arohata, really hard.... Just throwing ideas out there.

I second that.

I was looking at other career options but then instead moved to another company doing more or less the same job, much better environment and therefore happiness again.

Mind you I'm also getting paid more, that helps too Big Grin

I work with a guy who was a police officer for 4 years. From what I gather, he left the job because he was sick of dealing with scum every day and because the paperwork and all the other stuff was too much. After a day out on "the beat" he had to go back to the station and write up every incident as detailed as possible. Stacks of paperwork. This is after your 8 hour shift. Someone gets in a domestic; 2 pages of notes. Someone gets done for speeding, they don't pay. Goes to court but officer cant make it due to other committments. Offender gets let off. It's pretty thankless and hard on everyone. It will change you.

He left the force over 3 years ago and still is getting summons to court to provide evidence for cases.

He does say however, there is nothing more exciting than a cop chase. Perhaps he hasn't tried downhill...

Wait just a god damn minute there, Clarice.

"someone gets done for speeding" This is either an infringement, or a summons. It is a pleecemin's opinion that you may have broken the lor.

Of course it should go to court. Some of us are philosophically opposed to it on any other basis. After all the Court (to give it its proper title) should be the arbiter of these matters. Thats what its for.

Court process requires evidence: "other commitments" my esra. If it is a defended court proceeding then its the most important thing in the accused person's life that day so why not in the pleecemins? After all, its their job to uphold these matters.

If they can't be bothered turning up to provide some evidence for the assertion they have made ( "He was speeding your worship and here is the note I made, the ticket I issued, and I clocked him on my hairdryer" then OF COURSE the charge is not proved, and the accused suffers no penalty.

AND BY THE WAY, THEY ARENT THEN OFFENDERS, BECAUSE THEY HAVE NOT BEEN PROVED TO HAVE COMMITTED ANY OFFENCE. THEY ARE NOT "LET OFF" ANYTHING: THE CHARGE WAS NOT PROVEN.

Do you understand this? Its a very important disctinction: it is in fact the only real meaningful distinction between living in a fascist police state, and what is left of our democracy.

And this is completely outside the realm of my (I presume) well known objection to ad hoc enforcement of un necessary arbitrary "speed limits" as a road safety measure, when they simply are nothing of the sort. A semi-useful statistical tool, but accorded way too much prominence in my view. But thats another debate.

As for Pulsar whether or not to join the Pleece? HP would suck (kind of like doing family lor) but the job would have its advantages. I met some K9 coppers once, that sounded interesting, and I also met a guy who had been in the equivalent of the AOS in another jurisdiction. that was fascinating.
