It''s not looking down that's the problem with neck braces but looking up. MXers don't ride with a flat back like DHers so the field of vision is different. 2 years and they'll be $500 and everywhere.

I love how something thats meant to be a good safety measure is restrictively expensive. If it wasn't so damn pricey then they (governing bodies) could go some way to standardising usage, much like fullface helmets, so everyone is safer. Why is a piece of equipment which significantly reduces chances of serious injury such a costly investment? I know $600 odd isn't a lot to keep on walking etc. but how many people want to shell out that much green when it's cheaper and easier to go without?

Downhillers I know that have used them don't find them restrictive at all. Evs make a nice one for 250 which I'm seriously considering buying

Yea ive got one since I race motox. Im not really into hard out downhill racing, but Ive used up in woodhill a few times, and didnt have any problems. They are fully adjustable so you can get them right. Alpinestars have brought one out, but it hasnt been released yet, but I can tell you this, they wont be any cheaper. Personally, Alpinstar is overpriced, they charge like over a grand for there top of the line MX boot, where Fox charge $500 for there boot, and Ive riden with both and the fox one was much better.

Anyway, I would highly recommend it aye. I purchased mine from America, nearly half the price of here in NZ, its only because Daryl King is playing a Monopoly on these Neck Braces.

i also have one for MX.
would not ride without it anymore, seen so many neck injuries and head plants!

for downhill though? not too sure about that one....
it can't be a bad thing. just buy it from the states, i got a mate to grab one for me while he was over there.

the evs one looks like it will be good also and for $250 bucks you can't really go wrong....

and for the people that say HTFU! you guys are the real winners, it will be my taxes that pay for your rehab and life as a cripple. Angry

I'm lookng at getting one before '09 nats. Is there anything to look out for when choosing styles? Like, are there any design features that some MX ones have that are particularly bad for DH? Does anyone have a perticular brand they recommend?

I jsut googled the EVS ones bigJIMMY mentioned, only on pre-order apparently, but they come in pink! Laugh Out Loud So you can still look girly while nearly-but-not-quite breaking your spine. I would have to do my nails to match

Mesh backed gloved must be tan, and made of fine leather.
