Nevegals are fine. If they're going to be cut, ANY tyre would be cut...
Nevegals are weak as ssip. They might be good for smooth hardpack but they suck on loose rock. Back to Larsons or Highrollers.
if all i road was smooth hardpack i would never have got the nevegals, i would have stayed with fasttracks or gone to lesrans for a change. Nevegals are really nice unless you do a bit of smooth hardpack or road which is the reason mine have nop lasted as long as i would have liked (riding to work 10 mins each way 3 times a week and to wainui and from belmont and the odd ride into town and back)
i run the UST versions and they are great ( running tubeless). I have punctured once ( which i think was on glass) and have been running rather low pressures between 22-30 psi. I burped them once when pushing it hard into a burm with a wee rise and then i realised that they had 16PSI.... OOPS! but that i supose istn that relevant.
so why doesnt everyone like the nevegals? what version are people running?
I found the nevegals were unsuitable for my riding.
No issues with tearing sidewalls, just didn't roll too well, didn't grip very well, didn't last very well, weren't cheap and I don't like the font they use on the sidewalls.
I run Nevegals. A good tyre. They grip well on a variety of surfaces - very well on hard pack and rocks. Forget it on gloopy mud. They do have thin sidewalls. The other day i punctured twice - on square edge rocks. The first time I did hear the rim go ping, I don't think anything but a DH tyre would have saved me then though. Not running any tubes now, will see how that goes. They are not fast rolling - not a priority on a 6" rig, it's hardly a xc race bike.
A number of my friends are running WTB tyres with good results around the Chch tracks.
A Minion on the front and High roller on the back is a good combo too.
At the end of the day just get out and ride. When you fall off, blame the tyres. :-)
