 |
|
Hey, I've been riding BMX for a few years and now im looking to get more back into the mtb side of things, and would like to get a Hard Tail. Main things i will use it for are dirtjump, structures like woodhill style, trail, a bit of street, pretty much most things. A friend of mine has a Kona Sparc and i think its a real nice bike to ride. Im looking at the Kona Cowan HT and was wondering if anyone knows what its like, or if there are any other brands with nice HT bikes like this around that price range?
Thanks

the p series, or the stp series, i personally dont rate kona that much. Id keep the bmx for street, as mtb street looks and feels knaw. or if your full of money, custom build it. this way you will get exactly what you want. Id go down that route, and buy a proper sweet frame, (DMR, ns bikes, etc etc) then build around that.

IMO a Blk Mrkt Riot would be a cool alternative to an STD or P-bike.

Blk Mrkt is the best mtb jump bike around, spot on angles, really nicely made and the ride is sublime
The specializeds are pretty good but for me I find the long is way too long and the short is ridiculously short, otherwise nice bikes.
Giant STP is also very nice, similar to the Blk Mrkt but with slighlty longer chainstays (also Aluminium)
For something cheap, I would go with the Iron Horse Yakuza Chimpira, it comes nicely specced with a good fork (rock shox argyle) and solid parts throughout. The Chimpira can be picked up for around 1700 dollars complete, comes with gears and disc brakes so it can be used for just about anything. It also has what I think is "proper" geometry for a hardtail (like the Blk Mrkt, STP and specialized) which is short chainstays (<16" and a slackish head angle (~68.5 degrees). Konas and DMR's etc have long stays and a steep head angle so don't ride as good

Are all the DMR bikes 24"? I would prefer a 26".. What would be their equivalent to the Cowan?

Trailstar, sidekick or transition 26. Although coming from a bmx I don't know how much you'd like a dmr, you'd prefer the geometry of something like a Black Market or STP IMO.

Looking at the STP 1 and 0 I quite like the look of these now, any more opinions on this?
