Hi guys
Currently living in sydney and am about to move back to christchurch and get back into dh riding. Have bought a bike etc and am looking at buying a helmet before i come back. The bike shed here in mortdale, sydney sell the composite d2 for $399 aus and the carbon phobia ( which i am very attached to ) for $499 aus. -Question is are they worth it or a little over the top. Love how they look and can finally afford one, however am having second thoughts about handing over over $600 NZ on a helmet. Is there a better option out there for a nice helmet?
Cheers Big Grin

They're only worth it if they fit your head well.
Apart from that, they're light... look nice.
But for me, they don't fit - so get a big 'meh' out of 10.

I'd say definitely not.

There is a rumour going round that the current DH Troy Lee helmet doesnt meet the internation crash standards and that Troy Lee have to totally redesign it so it actually works.

Outside of that, they dont fit that well on a lot of heads - like stun is saying.

Get a moto helmet, the fit alot better than troy lees. and they work alot better.

I wont ever wear a troy lee again. they didnt work for me

I found cracks in the polystyrene in mine having never ever had a decent knock to it, I'm in the process at looking at the moment, moto helmets are actually far better value for money too (you can get a solid one for 300, the one that takes my fancy is about 540 and it looks pretty good (hopefully it fits me well so i can buy one!). The equivalent TLD model is ~300 more so you definately do pay for the label.....

Its about the same price for a tld composite or a good quality moto, and my heads worth 60k+ thus far so a block of butter extra weight doesnt see a big issue for piece of mind

I bought mine in canadia last year. It fits me really well (I found the giro I had before was a bit large and tended to wobble around), and I've been really pleased with it.

As for are they worth it? It mostly, as others have said, comes down to fit. Mine fits my head really well, and I like the way that it looks.

The only thing that I'm not so happy with is that it's a bit of a tight fit for my goggles (spy magnetos) - especially with the race foam on (as opposed to the super-plush foam)
