So the govt is looking to ban incandescent blubs and push the fluro type ones instead. However, with the advances in led tech, is this a viable alternative to traditional light sources in the home?

I am just starting to look at the feasibility and cost etc, but appreciate anyone elses thoughts.

Incandescent bulbs are one of the few things that don't distort our waveform. bring them back I say.

LED's has a distinct advantage if you design the house to run on a low voltage DC lighting system, especially if you generate your own power.

if not, you can run led's in 12V dicroic (sp?) (MR11) fittings and you need less transformers that you would to run the dicroics.

I bought an MR11 3xcree led from ebay a year or so ago, was intended for a bike light but not bright enough, they've improved heaps since then, but still quite pricey, theres a place in Oz thats developing home led lighting that I found a while ago Smile

I bought a light fitting from Lighting Direct 3 or 4 years ago that was running 240v LED bulbs.

The bulbs that came with the fitting were tihse and blew relatively quickly. Replacement bulbs were expensive, but were still glowing the last time I saw them.
